Set in 1957 this HO/HOn3 layout depicts an area on the edge of a small town to the south of Denver, Colorado. The consumer society is expanding rapidly to the accompaniment of revolutionary rock n roll music, but the Cold War is deepening and the launch of Sputnik has created further uncertainty on the international scene, leading to an expansion of the armed forces.
Steam has almost completely vanished from the mainline railroads, and the luxurious long distance passenger trains are struggling to survive in the face of competition from the new jet airliners and the government backed Interstate Highway system.
The builders of diesel locomotives are all attempting to secure a share of the new market for their products, and colourful examples may be seen from Alco, Fairbanks-Morse, Budd , EMD and Baldwin.
Track on the layout is Peco, Shinohara and Microscale, with switches (points) operated by Fulgurex, Tortoise or Cobalt motors. Buildings are a mixture of scratch built, DPM, Walthers, Downtown Deco and Bar Mills. Locomotives are from Proto, MTH, Broadway, Bachmann, Lifelike, Athearn, Blackstone, Atlas and Con-Cor. Stock is Lifelike, Walthers, Blackstone, Atlas, and Kadee.
